If you didn’t already know the end of season 2 was rapidly approaching by the arrival of the public test realm and patch 2.3 then you could have easily guessed it due to the total lack of arena on nearly every battle group. Now, I fully understand that as the season winds down teams are going to be playing less often. Though it’s quite unfortunate that this slow down has to begin 2 months or more before the season is supposed to end.

My team has done everything within our power to continue playing, queuing up for battle at a wide variety of times throughout the week. Evenings, day times, afternoons, the time never seems to really matter. We rarely play any teams within 150 points of our 2300 rating.

11 out of the top 20 teams on Reckoning didn’t play at all this past week. Save a few teams, most who did play simply played their 10 and called it. Of all battlegroups I thought Bloodlust might be different, but even on Bloodlust where teams are supposedly “always wanting to play”, 11 out of the top 20 didn’t play any 5v5 games week.

Though it’s no surprise to me, why would any of these teams even want to play? It’s the largest contributing factor to my 5v5 teams diminished number of games each week. There is zero to gain and everything to lose. This late in the season most everyone has their arena set completed and is simply banking points till the end of the season. Though it’s very disheartening that rating and ranking mean so much that late season play is completely inhibited.

Beyond all of that, I’m getting pumped up for the beginning of arena season 3. Completely new armor sets always give players motivation to play again. I really hope Blizzard learns from this season’s very long length and doesn’t make the same mistakes in the future. With such a lack of content and achievable objectives many players are just flat out board, though I’m hopeful that patch 2.3 will reenergize many facets of the game for all players.
